Who We Are

Building Blocks Behavioural Consulting is committed to provide effective teaching that fosters genuine growth and independence. We currently provide individualised behavioural support to children aged 2-18 in the North East of England and consultation services to caregivers across the UK. We focus on building essential skills, which critically include self-advocacy and understanding. We equip our learners with the tools to communicate their needs, assert their boundaries, and comprehend the world around them, ensuring they are active participants in their own lives. By meticulously focusing on each learner's strengths, we don't just address challenges—we leverage existing abilities to build a foundation for lasting success and self-efficacy.

Our Services

Positive Behavioural Support (PBS)

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centered approach focused on understanding why specific behaviours are occurring. The aim is to equip learners and their caregivers with the necessary skills to effectively self-advocate.

PBS services are comprehensive and include an initial assessment, collaborative goal setting, and continuous goal tracking. Services are typically conducted across various settings, including the home and school.

Each learner receives a bespoke program, developed by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA), with specific goals to be achieved over the plan period. The most effective PBS model is holistic, involving a multi-professional team that may include caregivers, school personnel, and other specialists.

Focused Support

Sometimes, a full, comprehensive behavioural program isn't what's needed. If you're tackling specific behavioural challenges affecting just one area of life, a focused, short-term program may be a better fit.

Our BCBA offers focused assistance in areas including:

  • Routine and Skill Building:

    • Sleep challenges

    • Toilet training

    • Managing transitions

    • Time management

  • Family Life and Dynamics:

    • Adjusting to new siblings and/or environmental changes

    • Promoting flexibility within the home

    • Ensuring positive family connections

  • Community Integration and Safety:

    • Increasing comfort and independence during community outings

    • Supporting initial participation in extra-curricular activities (such as swimming, tae-kwon-do, ballet, gymnastics)

    • Improving safety awareness

School Consultation

When behavioural challenges impede a learner's success in school, despite the best efforts of both schools and caregivers, a crucial element may be missing.

In these situations, specialized behavioural consultation and intervention can be essential. Our Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) offers targeted school consultation:

  • Assessment: The BCBA observes and assesses the learner's behaviour directly within the school environment.

  • Analysis: They determine the function and underlying reasons for the challenging behaviour.

  • Intervention: They collaborate with the school to develop and implement a bespoke Behaviour Intervention Plan designed specifically to facilitate the learner's success focused on building skills and increasing regulation within the learning environment.

  • Support and training: They provide training to school staff on intervention strategies and monitor student progress.

Caregiver Consultation

Therapy is most successful when all those involved with the learner actively participate. Our caregiver consultations are designed to give you the specific tools and strategies you need to confidently handle various scenarios.

Challenging situations can often leave you feeling unsure of the best response. When stress is added, knowing what to do can feel impossible. We will help you develop a clear plan for managing challenging behaviours, taking the guesswork out and giving your learner the confidence they need.
